Mr. Goodbar

Mr. Goobar is made with chocolate and peanuts and produced by Hersheys.

After completing an apprenticeship to a confectioner in 1876, Milton Snavely Hershey founded a candy shop in Philadelphia, which failed six years later. After trying unsuccessfully to manufacture candy in New York, Hershey returned to Pennsylvania, where he founded the Lancaster Caramel Company, whose use of fresh milk in caramels proved successful. In 1900, Hershey sold his caramel company for $1,000,000 and began to concentrate on chocolate manufacturing.

In 1903, Hershey began construction of a chocolate plant in his hometown, Derry Church, Pennsylvania, which later came to be known as Hershey, Pennsylvania. The milk chocolate bars manufactured at this plant proved successful, and the company grew rapidly thereafter.

This was a new concept to me - pretzels in a candy bar! These are amazingly popular in the US and I had been encouraged to try these by reviews from across the pond.

Described as two large pretzels covered in carmel, peanut butter and a peanut coating sounded intresting. The pretzel flavour was an intresting concept but for me did not fuse well with the caramel and peanut butter. The saltyness was unlike what you get with nuts but more like salty crisps; for me this is didnt fuse well.

The peanut coating failed to establish any sort of flavour agaisnt the other layers. Generally the flavours dont mix too well - especially the pretzels taste like they shouldnt be paired with the overly sweet toppings.

Overall the bar didnt do much for me. One thing I do appreciate about the bar is its originality. If this sounds like your sort of thing its definately worth a go.
